Birding in San Salvador is a good chance to introduce you into El Salvador local species; looking some of them missing for check on your list? Or probably just for appreciate the nature and fauna, this is the opportunity to do it in company with our professional guides.
We find different species in the Metropolitan area. First a visit to Eco Parque El Espino in the periphery of San Salvador is a good spot to go on search of resident species all year around , here you are able to see Rufous-naped Wren, Elegant Trogon ,White-bellied Chachalaca, Plus Neotropical migrants ( Middle October to Late April ) like Black-and-white Warbler. The park is a shade grown coffee plantation with trails in different conditions but in general good and a couple of overlooks from where you can have nice views of the large forested area and city of San Salvador.
Later transfer to another great point on the top of San Salvador Volcano, in Boquerón National Park. This natural area is the home for several highland species like Rufous-collared Robin , Bushy-crested Jay, Rufous- collared Sparrow and more. The park, has an small network of trails in good conditions with a second growth forest with beautiful gardens and is surrounded by a cloud forest. The weather is cool with temperatures ranging from 27° to 13° Degrees Celsius (78° to 55° Fahrenheit ) and sometimes windy . Trails have different levels of inclination and some steps you have to walk, this is physically demanding if you are not familiar with this kind of terrain.
This is a good tour for starters for learn more about birds and the important role they play for our forest and people. Or if you are and advanced birder this is also a good chance to find target species.
