Izalco Volcano Hiking Day Tour

Izalco Volcano  Tour Starts: 08:30 am
From: San Salvador City
Tour Duration: 9 hrs

Hike to the summit of El Salvador’s Izalco Volcano, known as the Lighthouse of the Pacific. This is a challenge even for experienced climbers, but once you reach the crater you’ll be rewarded with spectacular scenery and panoramic views!

Located 8.5 kilometers north-east of the town of Izalco, this is one of the younger volcanoes in the Americas. Its first activity dates back to 1770 and for the next 196 years, the volcano erupted almost continuously. The eruptions were visible even from the ocean, earning Izalco its nickname, the Lighthouse of the Pacific. The volcano’s last eruption was in 1966 and since then there has been a gradual decrease in activity.

Some of the mountain’s slopes are as steep as 45 degrees, presenting a tough challenge for even the most experienced climber. The reward that awaits those who make the journey, however, is one that will take your breath away. The volcano’s perfect cone is clearly visible due to the lack of vegetation and the views from the top are spectacular!

If you like to combine extreme sports and ecotourism then this is definitely the tour for you!
